Delphinium Daydream

October 6, 2020 | SummerSpring
Bright blue skies, a sparkling blue ocean, sitting on your powdery blue beach towel, eating bursts of sugary blueberries … there’s just something about the colour blue that imbues calm, well-being and stability. Often associated with depth, healing, health & tranquillity; blue is considered a beneficial colour for soothing the mind and the body.

Here at Pearsons Florist, when we’re feeling overstimulated, overwhelmed or rundown, we ask our chief buyer Bernard to bring back some blue delphiniums from the flower market, so that we can infuse our work and living spaces with some refreshing vitality!

Flowering mostly in spring and summer, delphiniums are known for their spectacularly long flower spikes, with gorgeous 5-petalled flowers that sprout along the length of the stem. The genus name comes from the Greek delphin (meaning dolphin) noting the shape of the nectar-carrying spurs at the base of the flower.

Most commonly grown for their lovely tall spires of blue blooms, the delphiniums’ strong self supporting stems can also produce branching columns of glowing pink and purple flowers. Bouquets of combined colours make delightful duets or trios of harmonious feminine shades that invite associations of blossoming seaside romance. Yearning for some coastal calm or seaside sensuality from behind your computer screen?
