Did you know flowers improve emotional wellbeing?

June 2008

It has long been known that everyone loves to receive flowers and now research conducted at Rutgers, State University of New Jersey, shows that the presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behaviour in a positive manner.

What's more, according to scientific research by NASA, indoor plants can have a positive impact on our health by reducing stress, absorbing chemical pollutants in the air and converting carbon dioxide into oxygen.

Spread health and happiness!  Brighten someone's day with our special internet offers for June!

Meet Candice - Florist and student at Pearsons School of Floristry

3 April 2008

Candice is a talented student at Pearsons School of Floristry who also works as a florist at Pearsons Sydney stores.   Click here to watch a video of Candice talking about her floristry work and studies.

Taken from an interview with Candice, now showing on SkillsOne TV (Foxtel Channel 183)...

"Finally Candice Thomas has a smile on her face! From hospitality to childcare to health science our talent has had almost every job under the sun… But, gee was she miserable until she found floristry! Before working with flowers, she found all her other jobs boring and hated the office environment. Initially unsure about pursuing floristry as it was a massive career change, motivation from her husband was enough to drive her, and she has not looked back! We meet with Candice in the classroom at Pearsons where she is learning her skills, and we have a chat with her about the course and the direction she is heading. She also shows us how to make a bouquet!"

Budding Florists Prepare for a Blooming New Year!

14 December 2007

What do a nurse, an investment banker, a teacher, a secretary and a chef all have in common? They are among students about to embark on a challenging, exhilarating and colourful course that could change their lives forever.

Early in 2008, Sydney’s next generation of florists will start learning from the experts at Pearsons award-wining school. Their studies will include learning the names and origins of hundreds of flower and plant species, the principles of great design, visits to the flower markets, and – most importantly – time perfecting their hands-on floristry skills.

As part of the renowned Pearsons Florist, the school draws on more than 35 years experience gained running nine stunning Sydney stores, and provides a unique real-life learning environment. Best of all, the Pearsons course is fast-tracked, so students can become work-ready florists – with a nationally recognised qualification – in just one day per week, over one year.

Many graduates of Pearsons School of Floristry have gone on to achieve their dream of working with beautiful flowers every day; you can find Pearsons graduates working in flower shops throughout Australia, and all over the world. Others have created award-winning floristry businesses of their own, or simply enjoy creating floral designs at home, for family and friends.

Wherever floristry takes the Pearsons class of 2008, they will all share a passion for flowers that will last a lifetime. For those considering a career in floristry, the school holds regular information sessions. For details call 9550 7755 or visit www.pearsonsschool.com.au

Pearsons Florist Spreads Melbourne Cup Fever for a Good Cause

6 November 2007

A Cancer Council supporter of nearly 20 years, Pearsons Florist is gearing up to spread Melbourne Cup fever on Tuesday November 6, whilst joining in the fight against cancer.

For a gold coin donation, Pearsons Florist stores across Sydney will be providing a buttonhole flower for customers to wear on race day.  Stores are located in Bondi Junction, Broadway, Chatswood Chase, Darlinghurst, Met Centre, MLC Centre, Queen Victoria Building, Rhodes and Warringah Mall.

Jo Ramdeen, Marketing Manager at Pearsons Florist, said "This is just another way that we can join in the fight against cancer and assist in the Cancer Council’s mission to defeat this vicious disease.

"Cancer touches so many people, so we want to do everything we can to reduce the incidence of the disease in Sydney," added Ms Ramdeen.

"Every little bit helps, and we are hoping that with lots of small donations from racing fans across Sydney, we can help make a difference in the lives of people suffering from cancer," Ms Ramdeen added.

All donations received towards the buttonhole on Melbourne Cup Day will be donated to The Cancer Council NSW.

"Around 30,000 people in New South Wales will be diagnosed with cancer this year so it is important that we try and do everything to reduce this number," said Kathryn Sell, Community Relations Coordinator for The Cancer Council’s Sydney Metropolitan office.

"All funds raised from Pearsons Florist will contribute directly to The Cancer Council’s initiatives in cancer research, education, information, advocacy and patient support services including The Cancer Council Helpline (13 11 20) which takes over 22,000 calls per year.

"I would like to encourage all local residents to pop down to their local Pearsons Florist to get in the spirit of Melbourne Cup Day and join our fight against cancer," added Kathryn.

Visit your local Pearsons store on Tuesday 6 November to make your donation and collect your flower. Click here for store locations.
