Thanks to everyone who entered our competition and congratulations to our winners!
1ST PRIZE – Jan Wood, Sydney CBD
I have been married now for 33 years and I can honestly say that every Saturday I receive a bunch of roses from my husband. When we moved into our first home he gave me a rose bush until we filled the garden – after that I received sometimes two or three bunches.
I asked him why he thought I deserved them and she said because you just love them so much. He also paid for me to attend two of your courses which I enjoyed immensely with my sister at your Darlinghurst store. Thank you for letting me share my story.
2nd PRIZE – Jane Barnett, Surry Hills
December 17th 2005 – My boyfriend at the time, unknown to me arranged with my boss the day off work. I came back from the physio in the morning to see on the coffee table the most amazing arrangement from Pearson’s I had ever seen with a card saying “I love you very much. You have the day off work, please pack a day bag including your swimmers and be down stairs in 20 minutes for a private silver car to pick you up.” Love Trent.
The car took me to Rose Bay where I saw Trent and we boarded a sea plane to a private beach off the Hawkesbury, there he proposed and I said yes. Later that night we had dinner at China Doll and drinks at the W bar. We have been together 7 wonderful years, married for 4 years and have a gorgeous 1 year old daughter, Emmie.
3rd PRIZE – Helen, Sydney CBD
Seventeen years ago, my niece in her early 20’s had a baby and she died only 2 hours old. Pearsons had not long opened in Oxford St, I popped in on my way to the funeral. I spent a long time talking to someone not just about the flowers, they were kind, sympathetic and naturally the flowers and arrangement were both beautiful and unique.
They meant a lot to my niece which made me feel good as I knew there was no way of making it better. Since then every time I hear the name ‘Pearsons’ I think of the beautiful flowers, what they meant to my niece and the chat I had in the shop.

My boyfriend at the time found out I never had received flowers on birthday and went out of his way to make up for it – and every one came with a beautifully written card, including a clue for the night’s surprise!"

Stories behind the flowers from Taryn - the manager of Pearsons Florist Broadway Store
Taryn has a customer that comes in every week to purchase flowers for herself – she says it is purely for self-indulgent reasons. She lives in a flat with no garden and having a beautiful bouquet of flowers every week is a lovely reminder of the garden she once had.
Another customer comes in to buy herself anthuriums on a regular basis. She loves to have them in the house because they were the flowers in her wedding bouquet. She only comes in when the flowers wilt so we only see her once every 2 or 3 weeks - anthuriums are great because they last for ages!
We have a very nice gentleman who comes in every 2 weeks and purchases a rose for his girlfriend because it makes her really happy. He always insists that it must be a Colombian rose because they are so special!
Another lovely lady whose name is Mrs. English visits our store often and always buys herself "English flowers" She was born in England and really loves flowers like lavender, freesias and all the bulb flowers like hyacinths, daffodils and jonquils.
From Nettan - Pearsons Florist Retail Manager
"At our QVB store we have one customer who learnt the power of giving flowers the hard way! His mates took him on a trip to the Gold Coast for his buck’s night. He had a fantastic time but over-indulged and woke up the next day to find he had missed his plane back to Sydney. He had to purchase a new plane ticket at an exorbitant cost and his fiance was, understandably a bit upset! Before going home he popped into our store for a huge bunch of flowers to smooth the way! It worked so well that he now comes in every few weeks to buy flowers for his wife!"
From Marcel - Business Development & Events Manager
4 Weddings and no funeral!
I remember a client of ours who was married four times last year to the same man! As they had friends and family all over the world, the bride decided that they would get married in various locations so that no one would miss out on their special day.
Their first marriage took place in Russia, then they flew to the USA for the second one. Then from there they continued to New Zealand and then lastly to Sydney for their fourth wedding on New Years Eve complete with stunning views of the harbour and bridge as their backdrop.
In each location she would hire the best florist to do all her flowers, as well as had different dresses for herself and for her bridesmaids. In Sydney she came to Pearsons Florist because she and her family have known and used our services for all their floral needs for many years. Needless to say that the New Year's eve wedding went off with a bang with all the fireworks and our spectacular floral displays. What a lucky bride!
Special Delivery in Greece!
One time about 20 years ago, we had to organize a delivery to a remote village in Greece. As part of our delivery procedure, we have to ask whether the flowers would be safe to leave if the recipient is not home. We were told by the overseas florist that they would be eaten by the goats if the flowers were left unattended!
We were also advised that due to the difficult terrain, the delivery had to be done by donkey!
Valentine's Day Romance!
Valentine’s Day is so special with so many proposals, one came to mind with the client and myself organizing for over a week in preparation.
First a dozen long stem roses were delivered to her workplace in the morning.
Then at lunch time, a large teddy bear with a single rose arrived.
In the afternoon, a large exquisite arrangement was delivered.
However the main event came when he took her to a lavish dinner and a stay at a five star hotel in the city where the room was decorated with beautiful flowers. He proposed later that night and got a big YES!
How can one go wrong with such an effort? This customer still orders flowers with us each year on their wedding anniversary.
